7th Grade Field Trip
April 23, 2013
Dear Seventh Grade Parents,
As I mentioned at the beginning of the year, I only have one field trip a year for Spanish and that is with the seventh grade!
In Spanish class, we have started learning about food, shopping, asking for help with finding items, and ordering food to their likes for this field trip. The field trip will be on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 11AM -1:30 PM. The cost of the field trip is $14. We travel a short distance to Mi Pueblo Supermarket and Taqueria on Hesperian in Hayward. I have been working with Mi Pueblo for three years and the manager, along with all the employees, will only be speaking Spanish to our students. The children will be in groups, each with an item to find in the store and money to purchase that item. They will have to order their meal at the taqueria in Spanish also. At the end, they will have to fill out a questionnaire on how they did. For example, did they find their item the first time they checked out? Where they able to ask for and receive help in Spanish? Did they get exactly what they wanted to order for lunch? This is also Service-learning project because we donate all items to St. Vincent de Paul at St. John Parish! This is a great experience for the children.
All that being explained, I will need a lot of parent participation to make this field trip possible. Due to the Diocesan guideline, I will need two parents per car. Hopefully, we will have 24 students attending and we will need 16 chaperones in total. Mrs. Catalan and I will be 2 ride-along chaperones. We will need 8 drivers (less if we can have parents with bigger cars participate) and 6 more parents that can ride along. I will also have “stations” for parents around the store and at the doors for the children’s safety. Please mark you calendars now and if you can sneak away from work that day, this a great lunchtime treat for you as well. More paperwork will be coming soon.
Thank you in advance for your support and commitment to the St. John Spanish Program.
